The Dacia Sandero range – Europe’s best-selling car for the past two years – is gaining full hybrid power for the first time, with Sandero and Sandero Stepway hybrid 155 adding greater efficiency, electric driving around town and automatic ease to their familiar mix of practicality and outstanding value.
Priced from £17,995 on-the-road for Sandero and £19,295 on-the-road for Sandero Stepway, the hybrid 155 powertrain brings Dacia’s proven full hybrid technology to two of its most accessible models. There’s no need to plug in or change the way you drive: the system manages petrol and electric power automatically, always starting in electric mode and allowing up to 80% of urban driving to be completed on electric power alone.
It also delivers fuel consumption up to 40% lower than an equivalent petrol engine, helping make everyday journeys easier on fuel without adding charging stops to the weekly routine.
For Sandero, the hybrid 155 powertrain adds a new level of efficiency and automatic ease while staying true to the straightforward value that has helped make it Europe’s best-selling car. Sandero Stepway, meanwhile, combines the same hybrid benefits with its raised ride height, rugged crossover-inspired character and added versatility that have made it a favourite with British buyers.
MORE POWER, LESS FUSS
Already proven elsewhere in the Dacia range, the hybrid 155 powertrain combines a 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors – a traction motor and high-voltage starter/generator – plus a 1.4kWh battery and an electrified automatic gearbox.
Its clever clutchless transmission uses four gears for the petrol engine and two for electric operation, automatically choosing between the different combinations of petrol and electric power.
The result isn’t just about efficiency. Both Sandero and Sandero Stepway hybrid 155 accelerate from 0-62mph in 8.3 seconds, while the instant response of the electric motor makes for smooth and easy progress whether threading through town or heading further afield.
Regenerative braking recovers energy when slowing down and feeds it back into the battery, so there’s no need for the driver to think about when or how to recharge it.
TWO TAKES ON THE SAME WINNING FORMULA
Sandero hybrid 155 is available in Expression and Journey trim levels, priced from £17,995 and £19,295 on-the-road respectively.
Expression combines the new hybrid powertrain with a generous standard specification that includes a 10-inch Media Display touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ smartphone mirroring, DAB radio and Bluetooth connectivity, air conditioning, cruise control with speed limiter, automatic lights and wipers, a reversing camera and Dacia’s useful YouClip mounting points.
Journey adds extra comfort and technology including a seven-inch digital driver display, Media Nav Live with connected navigation and real-time traffic information, an Arkamys six-speaker 3D audio system, automatic air conditioning, keyless entry, heated front seats and steering wheel, wireless smartphone charging and a Multiview camera.
Sandero Stepway hybrid 155 takes the same easy-going hybrid technology in a more rugged direction. Its increased ground clearance, crossover-inspired styling and extra versatility make it well suited to drivers who want to take everyday practicality a little further.
Available in Expression trim from £19,295 on-the-road and Extreme from £20,595 on-the-road, Sandero Stepway also features modular roof bars that can quickly be reconfigured when there’s more kit to carry. Extreme builds on its adventurous character with features including Extended Grip, a Multiview camera, Blind Spot Warning and distinctive Copper Brown exterior details.
READY FOR REAL LIFE
Going hybrid hasn’t diluted the practical qualities that have made Sandero and Sandero Stepway so successful. Both offer 410 litres of boot space with the rear seats in place, and accommodate up to 1,455 litres with them folded.
A maximum braked towing capacity of 1,100kg across both models adds another useful string to their bow, while Sandero Stepway’s 200mm ground clearance adds even greater versatility for when the going gets tougher.
Lina Ribeiro, Dacia Brand Director for the UK, said: “Sandero has always been about giving customers more of what they actually use, without making them pay for things they don’t. Hybrid 155 fits that thinking perfectly. It brings automatic driving, electric power around town and lower fuel consumption, but there’s nothing extra to plug in or worry about. Whether you prefer the straightforward simplicity of Sandero or the more rugged character of Sandero Stepway, you now get those same useful hybrid benefits while keeping everything that makes each model such a strong Dacia.”
Sandero and Sandero Stepway hybrid 155 will be available to order from today, 4 November 2026, with Sandero priced from £17,995 on-the-road and Sandero Stepway from £19,295 on-the-road.
